In South Cotabato, a young club is making a big promise to Filipino football: that greatness can begin anywhere — and that dreams, when trained daily, can change lives.
New Year mornings in Polomolok arrive quietly. The sun rises over Brgy. Cannery, the roads still half-asleep, the air fresh with possibility. But by mid-morning, the silence breaks — not with noise, but with purpose. Boots scrape against concrete, balls roll with intent, laughter mixes with instruction. This is where FC Polomolok trains. This is where dreams are taught how to stand on their own two feet.
Founded in 2023, FC Polomolok is still young by football standards — but in spirit, it is already seasoned. It is not merely an academy. It is a workshop for character. A proving ground for discipline. A shelter for hope.
At the center of this movement stands Gil Mark Candido, Founder and Head Coach, joined by RJ Jayme and Michael Sara — three men bound by a shared belief that football, when done right, can reshape a community.
Where Coaching Became a Calling
Long before there was a club crest or structured training schedule, Coach Candido and fellow coaches spent nearly five years teaching football for free. They did it under the sun, without applause, without guarantees — driven only by love for the game and concern for the youth.
But love alone, he realized, is not sustainable.
“Coaching is not charity,” Candido says. “It’s responsibility. We shape values, habits, and futures. That work deserves respect.”
That realization became the backbone of FC Polomolok. The club was built to protect two dreams at once: the dreams of young players and the dignity of coaches who guide them. By educating parents, formalizing programs, and creating a structured academy, FC Polomolok chose sustainability over shortcuts.
Inspired by Giants, Rooted in Home
The name FC Polomolok nods to a footballing ideal; clubs that believe in identity, patience, and youth development. The inspiration may be global, but the soul is unmistakably local.
This club plays for Polomolok.
It trains for Polomolok.
It dreams of Polomolok.
Here, winning matters, but not at the expense of learning. Style matters, but never more than values. Players are taught to think, to share responsibility, and to respect teammates and opponents alike.
From Twenty to a Tribe
The first training sessions welcomed just 20 players. No grand launch. No bold promises. Just consistency.
That consistency became credibility.
Today, FC Polomolok has grown into a football family of around 150 players, active and inactive, spread across a complete grassroots pathway:
- 4–6 years old – where football feels like play
- 7–10 years old – where coordination meets confidence
- 11–13 years old – where skills find structure
- 14–16 years old – where dreams meet discipline
Training twice a week — Fridays and Saturdays — the club balances ambition with academics, reminding players that football should build their future, not replace it.
Training the Player. Forming the Person.
At FC Polomolok, development is deliberate.
For the youngest players, sessions are joyful and expressive, with ball mastery, movement, and fun. For the older groups, the game becomes deeper: tactical understanding, physical preparation, and mental strength.
Under Coach Candido — an AFC C Licensed Coach and AFC Futsal Level 1 Licensed Coach, players are exposed not only to drills, but to standards.
Beyond regular sessions, the club invests in:
- Girls’ and women’s football, opening doors too long kept shut
- Goalkeeper training, respecting every role on the pitch
- Futsal programs, sharpening creativity and decision-making
- School-based outreach, bringing football to children who may never have found it otherwise
Competing With Courage
Results followed naturally.
In just a few years, FC Polomolok has stood tall in local and national tournaments, lifting trophies, earning podium finishes, and announcing its arrival to the wider football community.
But the proudest moment came when the club carried the Philippine flag abroad, competing in an international tournament in Thailand and returning not just with medals, but with belief.
Belief that Polomolok belongs on bigger stages.1q
Belief that Filipino grassroots football can compete with heart and intelligence.
The Real Victory Happens at Home
Yet the club’s greatest wins are not recorded in standings.
They are seen in children who spend less time on gadgets and more time chasing goals.
Students who manage their time better because training demands discipline.
In parents who notice confidence replacing shyness, structure replacing chaos.
So strong is the trust that parents now ask coaches to remind their children to sleep early, eat properly, and prioritize school.
Coach Candido laughs, but understands the weight of it.
“When a child listens to you,” he says, “you must never waste that trust.”
A Future Worth Training For
The next three years carry bold goals:
- Sending players to top universities through football scholarships
- Giving young athletes access to education they might never afford otherwise
- Expanding competition locally and internationally
- Strengthening community programs and facilities
To get there, FC Polomolok dreams of better fields, more equipment, and deeper support from local partners — not as charity, but as investment in youth.
A New Year, A Louder Dream
As the New Year begins, FC Polomolok’s chant echoes louder than ever:
“FC POLOMOLOK! VAMOS!”
It is not just a call to attack.
It is a call to move forward.
And in the words Coach Candido leaves with every player:
“To get something you never had, you must do something you never did.”
In Polomolok, they are doing just that — one session at a time, one child at a time, one brave dream after another.
OneFutbol Salute

OneFutbol proudly salutes FC Polomolok — a young club with an old soul, proving that grassroots football is not about how big you start, but how deeply you care.
In just a few short years, FC Polomolok has shown what the Filipino football community needs most:
- Coaches who demand respect not for status, but for service
- Programs built on discipline, education, and sustainability

- A vision that lifts both players and families
This is football done the right way.
From free community sessions to international representation, from teaching first touches to shaping life choices — FC Polomolok embodies the spirit of grassroots football that OneFutbol stands for: development before trophies, values before vanity, and community before self.
As we step into a new year, clubs like FC Polomolok remind us that the future of Philippine football will not be imported — it will be homegrown, hard-earned, and heart-led.
OneFutbol salutes you.
